Importance of Recycling

Most of us recycling has become just another part of our daily routine and we do not think about how important it is to have recycling in North East. We have had it drilled into our heads that by recycling we are helping to save our natural resources. There are, however, even more reasons that recycling is important.

Nobody wants a landfill in their backyard. By recycling in North East you are minimizing the amount of waste that makes it to the landfill. Glass, paper, and plastics are being broken down and reused to make new products. This helps to eliminate the need for new and bigger landfills, which would be necessary if all of those materials were going to the landfill.

Most people realize that recycling in North East is good for the environment but may not realize that by choosing to recycle and reuse items cuts the cost of production for new products. Aluminium cans are a prime example of how this works. By recycling an aluminium can a company will not have to use raw materials. This will save the company anywhere from seventy-five percent to ninety-five percent less energy to produce a new can. So, in addition to preserving our natural resources recycling also saves energy.

Recycling is also part of the new green jobs industry. As more people choose to recycle more workers are needed to collect and sort and process the recycled items. As more people are employed more money is spent in the community; one of those rare instances of a win/win situation.

Recycling in North East extends past the community and is helping to balance the ecology of the planet as well. By reducing the need to mine raw materials to produce new products we are preserving our rivers and forests and still producing the same volume of products needed. And by slowing the destruction of our forests and rivers we are maintaining the natural habitat for the other animals with which we share our planet.

The next time you wonder if your recycling is really making a difference, it is. If you were the only person recycling it may not make a difference, but when you combine what you do with your neighbours recycling it has a big impact. It is with this spirit of cooperation that you will be able to make a difference that extends well beyond your local community.
