Domestic Uses Of Renewable Energy

Renewable energy is the type of energy that comes from natural resources like the sunlight, wind, rain, tides, and geothermal heat, which can be naturally replenished. Nowadays, a lot of people around the world have adopted various energy saving and eco-friendly techniques to generate electricity in their own homes, one of them involves using renewable energy.

If your bill is too high and you need to save or if you want to reduce emissions and contribute to the cause of minimizing the carbon footprints, you can have a second thought about utilizing the renewable energy. Below are some of the significant uses of renewable energy, which you can apply in your own house.

Central Heating System Replacement

There are two ways that you can replace your central heating system using renewable energy. These include using a biomass boiler or heat pump. A biomass boiler works like a fireplace which provides warmth in a single room. The air heat pump extracts the warm air from the outside to heat radiators, under floor heating systems, or warm air convectors and hot water in your home. Biomass boiler and heat pump installations typically cost around 4,300 to 11,500. These renewable energy sources, however allow you to save money on electric bills and reduce carbon emissions.

Water System Heating

Instead of using electric water heater for your hot and cold shower and drinking water, you can opt to using a solar water heating system. It basically uses free heat from the sun to warm domestic hot water through a boiler or immersion heater.

The solar water heating system can work throughout a year, thus cutting your bills by almost 50% while being able to reduce carbon emission as well. Water system heating installations typically cost around 4,800 including the VAT.

Power generation

If you are living in a rural area where there is no other means of electricity, you can get the most reliable off-grid supply from hydropower system, wind turbine, or Solar PV. A hydropower system uses running water from small stream or large river to generate electricity that is enough to lighting and other electrical appliances in average homes. If your home is far away from rivers or streams, you can have wind turbines installed in your house. Wind turbines basically use the power of the wind to generate electricity.

For most efficient supply of electricity even during cloudy days or less windy days, you can opt to installing solar panel electricity system, also known as solar photovoltaic's. Its solar cells absorb the heat from the sun and coverts them into electrical energy for lighting and other appliances for your home use. Most of the domestic solar panel system usually cost around 3,000 to 3,500 per kWp installed.
